Take Action: No Free Ride for Polluters

From: Kuma Date: Oct 30, 2007 4:16 PM Hey, guys. It's looks pretty clear that some kind of pollution credit system will be created soon to try to get a handle on the climate crisis. Polluting industries are trying to turn that legislation into a massive program of corporate subsidies. Their plan--giving away the credits for free to big polluters--punishes new companies and companies who got a jump on cleaning up their act. But a full public auction makes sure that everyone plays fair by charging them equally to pollute and raises money to help pay for America's transition to the clean energy economy. Most of the Democratic presidential candidates have endorsed the public auction--which means industry is in a hurry to lock up the other system while we still have this President and this Congress. I just signed a petition to ask our Congress to make sure any climate legislation has a public auction to sell pollution credits. Signing a petition may not feel like a lot. But it's

Attention Anti-War Activists!

Hello! I study social movement participation at the University of Dundee, in Scotland. My research focuses on different aspects of activism, like what keeps people committed to a social movement, and how social movements can best draw new recruits. I have a new Internet-based study that I'm very excited about, as I think will tell us new and exciting things about the dynamics within movements when they reach their `middle years'. I would be grateful if you would participate in this online study, which takes about 20-25 minutes to complete. All participants can remain completely anonymous if they wish to. However, 2 participants will be selected by lottery to win either an i-pod shuffle or cash equivalent, so those who choose to participate in the lottery will have to provide their email address. ALL data are kept on a secure server and are only accessible by myself and my research assistant. We are NOT interested in individual responses and will NEVER disclose ANY information t

Take Action to Hold Lawbreakers Accountable!

For years the Bush administration has been illegally wiretapping Americans' phone calls with the willing assistance of major telecom companies like Verizon and AT&T. Now the White House is putting enormous pressure on Congress to give phone companies retroactive immunity for all the laws they broke spying on innocent Americans. Here's why: The pending lawsuits against these companies may be the only way we ever find out how far the Bush administration went in breaking the law. President Bush wants immunity for them to cover his own actions. We need to speak out loudly against this move. A compiled petition with your individual comment will be presented to your Senators and Representative. http://pol.moveon.org/pac/noimmunity/

Take Action to Keep out Susan Orr!

From: Kuma Date: Oct 18, 2007 9:31 AM Hey guys... more nonsense from capitol hill could use some attention... Get this: The Bush administration recently announced the appointment of a staunchly anti-birth control extremist to a leadership role in the Office of Population Affairs. It's outrageous. Susan Orr's anti-reproductive health stance is clear. She applauded President Bush's reinstatement of the global gag rule and urged him to revoke approval for mifepristone (formerly known as RU-486)-- both while working for the notoriously anti-choice, anti-birth control, anti-sex education organization, the Family Research Council. Here's where you can do something about it: http://www.ppaction.org/campaign/oppose_orr?rk=q1%5fG0%5fp1EgI9E Thanks, guys.

I Needed This Today...

Today's DailyOM : October 2, 2007 Moving Through Darkness The Places We Go In life, most of us want things to go to the places we have envisioned ourselves going. We have plans and visions, some of them divinely inspired, that we want to see through to completion. We want to be happy, successful, and healthy, all of which are perfectly natural and perfectly human. So when life takes us to places we didn’t consciously want to go, we often feel as if something has gone wrong, or we must have made a mistake somewhere along the line, or any number of other disheartening possibilities. This is just life’s way of taking us to a place we need to go for reasons that go deeper than our own ability to reason. These hard knocks and trials are designed to shed light on our unconscious workings and deepen our experience of reality. Often it takes something major to wake us up, to shake us loose from our ego’s grip as it struggles to maintain an illusion of control. It is loss of control more th

Trannies Deserve the Same Rights as the Rest of Us!

From: Ã…shleyCat Date: Oct 2, 2007 12:40 AM [Reposted from Sebastian ] NoSubstitutes.org Before Congress is HR 2015, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would protect Americans from workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. A "revised" (revised like Puffy revised Kashmir) bill has been introduced as HR 3685, which would not stop discrimination based on gender identity. Picture it! New Orleans, 2007! A young man with olive skin, and an ass so tight you could bounce cashews off of it, gets his hours cut, is constantly reprimanded, and told his wardrobe is inappropriate for a lady. Having next to no recourse, is forced to sleep on your couch (Thanks Ked!). If he were protected he could have a little self respect, and would skip a lot less meals! This half-ass bill sends a clear message, trans peoples rights are not as important as gay and lesbian peoples rights. Do you agree? If you do get the fuck off my friends list. Kidding! Ser
